Towneplace Suites Gainesville Review
Imagine that you’re researching where you want to go on a weekend and you happen to see a $16 hotel room… on a holiday weekend. It’s available on all the websites, even Marriott’s official site. Would you book the room?
Of course we did, and paid for it in full using our Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card. If it will get honored then great, if it will get cancelled, then it’s not a big deal considering the city is less than 2 hours away from where we live. After all, if you don’t at least try, then you won’t even know the outcome.
Guess what? Our room rate got honored.

The Hotel Amenities
Townesplace Suites is a hotel that mostly caters to longer-term travelers. Each room is a suite, with some of the comforts of a small apartment if you’re new in town or want a more spacious place to stay in.
The hotel has a cool wall near the front desk with a map of the tourist sites, local places, and other points of interest in the Gainesville area. It’s a bit sad we have not visited most of the places on that map, but all the more reason to come back, right?
The hotel had an outdoor pool, which we opted not to go to since there were a few other people lounging about. Plus, it was a bit on the small side, and we’re not really staying there for the pool. The hotel also has a gym, a small store near the front desk, and laundry facilities.
Breakfast was free, but because of the virus situation, the buffet has been replaced by grab and go bags available daily from 7am-9am. An early start, but for free breakfast, we’re more than willing to pick two bags up (one for each of us).
Inside our grab and go bag was an apple, a granola bar, and a muffin. If you’re a heavy breakfast eater, then you may not be happy with the selections, but we happily ate the muffin and took home the granola bar and apple.
The Towneplace Suites Room
Our room was on the third floor, so it was an easy jog up or down the stairs, but there are also elevators, which we chose to use when we checked in and had all our luggage. The hallway was long, but it was
We got a queen room, and it was massive, much bigger than I thought it would be. As soon as you enter, there’s a big refrigerator and a small kitchen to the right of the entryway. The kitchen had a microwave, a two-burner stove, and even a dishwasher.
There’s plates, cups, glasses, cooking utensils, as well as pots for your use. We did not use any of these during our stay, but make sure to clean it again as an abundance of caution.
There is a small living room area with a TV, a desk with a chair, and a couch that converts into a bed. There’s also a small table that converts into an ottoman/seat. The TV also had my husband’s name in the welcome message,
The bathroom is pretty big, it has a shower/tub combination, and has Paul Mitchell toiletries. There’s ample towels for two people.
The bedroom is also a bit big for a hotel. Even though we were only on a queen bed, it was more than enough space for two people, and there was another TV and air conditioning unit in the room.
Accessibility to the tourist attractions
The hotel is just off I-75, so if you happen to pass by Gainesville, this is a no-brainer. It is a bit more west than what I was hoping, but it is accessible to Paynes Prairie, Devil’s Millhopper, as well as other springs within an hour drive away.
UF is a quick 10 minute drive away, depending which part of the campus you need to go, and stores and restaurants are an easily 5 minute drive from the hotel. It is central and close to civilization enough – there’s a mall nearby as well, if you’re looking for more indoor things to do that are open later than the usual sites.
A huge room and a great value for money
Overall, we had a positive experience with this hotel. The plus was the price we paid for it, a whopping $16 which includes taxes and fees. Hopefully they did clean the room when we checked in!
We asked for mouthwash from the front desk, and they gave it to us for free, so this extended-stay hotel is definitely good value for your money. Free breakfast, large rooms which have kitchenettes, and ample space makes it ideal for larger families and those who just want a feel of being home while being away from home.
The hotel is part of the Marriott chain, so you can opt to use points or pay in cash and earn points from the stay. Would you stay at the Towneplace Suites Gainesville?
